As a Quality Engineer, you will support the Quality Management System within the assigned operational area, by providing expertise and advice on production or product problems fed back from both internal and external customers. To conduct investigations, analyses information and facilitate teams dealing with issues/projects associated with resolution of quality problems. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Quality Assurance responsibilities such as: product procedures and specifications, performing audits, improvements of products reliability and customer satisfaction through support of the NPI (New Product Introduction), Lean/CPS (Caterpillar Production System), and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) programs. 

  • The position must develop plans and tools that are used to implement or support global quality systems or related process i.e. Cost of Poor Quality, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), quality certifications, MQ11005 and MQ12005 etc.  

  • This position is required to work with all employees, across multiple divisions, to improve quality practices in their processes through quality manner such as daily coaching, tracking CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) projects & Scorecard, providing quality support if any poor results or negative trends occur, developing IQC training programs, providing training courses of quality specifications to employees, conducting internal quality audits, facilitating management reviews, etc.  

  • This position is required to implement the Idea Generation Process and Corrective and Preventive action processes by clarifying and verifying all ideas with related persons and spot check, explain the validation reasons, and encourage all employees to make contributions to achieve zero defect in operations.  

  • This position is required to be proactive to develop quality related control methodologies and systems such as Cost of Quality control company wide. Encourage the implementation of the established systems. Analyze and solve problems occurring during implementation.  

  • This position is also required to actively support 5S/Lean Manufacturing/QAD to help area owners set up goals and integrate 5S/Lean Manufacturing Practices with Internal Quality Certification system through standardization and documentation. 

  • The position will carefully evaluate problems (simple and complex) and provide solutions before selecting final option to achieve desired results needed to meet company and business objectives.  

 

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Manufacturing with an excellent understanding of quality management practices within a warehouse/manufacturing environment. In lieu of a degree, 5 to eight years of experience is required. 

  • Minimum three to five years of experience and requires a thorough knowledge of quality concepts including Lean/process control, analysis, and ISO9000 etc. 

  • Requires quality tools knowledge and to be able to teach manufacturing/office employees how to properly apply quality tools or techniques.  

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • 1+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis 

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively verbal/written and with digital media and data visualizations. 

  • Enthusiasm for big data processing, research, analytics, and problem solving 

  • Demonstrates a leadership ability that fosters teamwork, initiative, and interpersonal skills 

  • Requires strong communication, cooperation and influence skills to work with all levels of employees and customers, especially with leadership management employees. 

  • Familiar with Caterpillar internal certification principals 

  • Experience with analytical tools like Microsoft Office, Power BI, or Tableau

Summary

JOB PURPOSE: The position will have the primary purpose of supporting the Quality Management System within the assigned operational area, by providing expertise and advice on production or product problems fed back from both internal and external customers. JOB RELATED STATISTICS: Indeterminate JOB DUTIES: This multi-incumbent position is a Standard Job throughout the corporation that may function in a staff capacity in a particular phase of Quality Assurance responsibilities in assigned areas, including product test procedures and specifications, performing audits, improvements of products reliability and customer satisfaction through support of the NPI (New Product Introduction) program and resolution of metallurgical grief for steel/forgings at supplier or plant levels. The incumbent will have responsibilities for Quality Assurance in assigned areas, including product test procedures and specifications, performing audits, improvements of products reliability and customer satisfaction through support of the CPS (Caterpillar Production System), NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) programs. The position must develops plans and tools that are used to implement or support global quality systems or related process i.e. Cost of Poor Quality, APQP, PPAP, quality certifications, MQ11005 and MQ12005 etc. Implementation of MQ12005 will also align with the corporate requirements of the successful implementation of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) tools. This person reports to a Quality Manager or a Quality Supervisor and works with supervisors, technicians and other support groups. Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division. The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to carefully evaluate problems and review a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Process Quality, Part Quality, Internal Quality Certification, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Manufacturing with an excellent understanding of quality management practices or equivalent experience. Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment, or in the quality field is desired. Minimum three to five years of experience and requires a thorough knowledge of quality concepts including process control, analysis, Caterpillar internal certification principals, and ISO9000 etc. Requires strong communication, cooperation and influence skills to work with all levels of employees and customers, especially with leadership management employees. Requires quality tools knowledge and to be able to teach manufacturing/office employees how to properly apply quality tools or techniques. Advanced computer applications, good oral and written communications skills are a must.
