The Global Procurement Manager is responsible for managing strategic synergies by developing deep expertise and leading a globally diverse and geographically dispersed team of Category Managers, Site Purchasing Managers and NPI Coordinators to create & sustain a high-performing global supply network. They deliver Global Leverage and supply network market knowledge creating increased value while mitigating risk to the enterprise. They also plan, organize, staff, direct, and control the course of supply network strategies within specific assigned categories for Caterpillar worldwide. Position reports to the Director of Purchasing with a heavy dotted line reporting to the Vice President of the Machine Business Division.
Responsibilities Typically Include:
Assist Director in developing, implementing, and communicating the division-wide Global Supply Network Strategies.
Lead the development and implementation of the supply network strategy for the specific categories, ensuring they follow the 7 Step Category Strategy process, to include the use of QCLDM (Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, and Management) and Total Cost of Supply methodologies.
Maintain the ability to adapt in a timely fashion to a changing business climate to successfully execute to a diverse range of enterprise initiatives.
Select and develop personnel that are accountable of delivering the divisional strategies.
Own the supplier relationship management for their specific categories at an executive leadership level.
Manage a high performing global team reporting directly to this position are Global Category Procurement Managers, Site Purchasing Managers and NPI Coordination Leads.
Understand customer needs to insure the most value-added relationships.
Lead, develop, mentor, and train personnel capable of delivering the Global Supply Network strategy for their assigned categories.
Adhere to the approved Performance Management Plan. Identify performance gaps within the supply base and develop improvement plans for the identified gaps.

Participate in the development of the negotiating strategy, establish performance management criteria for the categories/suppliers and establish global category priorities based on benefits opportunities.
Insure conformance and compliance with all major certifying agencies both internal and external to Caterpillar. This includes both certification as well as auditing disciplines.
Develop, implement, and negotiate an overall budget that supports the needs of the dept., including accountability for service charge negotiation, performance vs. budget and any other service charge or departmental expense issues.
Support the specific category worldwide, insuring the highest levels of integrity and consistency in systems, processes, policies, and practices.
Negotiate and provide leadership for executive level strategic agreements as needed.
Manage a group of supply networks and site purchasing teams to deliver into many Caterpillar facilities.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering.
Extensive experience and knowledge of the governmental, environmental, political, and geographic factors that influence a supply base.
Experience leading a Supply Network Organization, NPI strategies & processes, lean value chain principles and strategic sourcing.
Strong communication and relationship building skills; capable of keeping the customer fully informed of progress and working closely with the customer to ensure all requirements are met.
Extensive global sourcing and strategy management knowledge.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Degree in Business Degree, Engineering or MBA preferred.
Several years at the mid-senior management level.
Experience in other disciplines.
CPIM and CIRM, or comparable certification.
Affiliation with NAPM/ISM and APICS, or comparable professional purchasing organization.
Previous assignments in multiple countries.
Multiple language experience preferred.
The location for this role is Peoria, IL. We will provide a relocation package & services to those that are eligible.
