The Recruiter II leverages sound knowledge, consultation and influencing skills to aid business leaders in attracting and hiring qualified best-in-class talent through innovative and proven talent acquisition strategies.  Additionally, the person in this role identifies, engages, and connects with the best talent on an ongoing basis to facilitate the filling of open positions quickly and efficiently.  Reporting to the Talent Acquisition Manager, the Recruiter II works with hiring managers and HR leaders to understand both current and future staffing needs, discuss potential recruiting strategies, and manage the recruiting process from quickly sourcing passive candidates through to offer acceptance. 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

Talent Consultation: Leverage an understanding of business unit and/or functional talent needs combined with a holistic view of the internal and external labor market to provide consultative talent guidance to HR Business Partners and hiring leadership.  Continuously analyze talent competition, local talent markets, technology and generational impacts on staffing. Collaborate with talent acquisition leadership to help business leaders forecast the impact of potential hiring demand fluctuations through business cycles and understanding of attrition rates (and reasons).  Collaborate and partner with business leaders to understand strategic workforce plans and facilitate pre-pipeline talent planning conversations.

Recruiting & Sourcing:  Design and develop comprehensive data-driven talent acquisition strategies to attract top talent in order to build the best teams and partner with hiring leadership and Human Resources Business Partners to execute strategies.  Evaluate resumes, conduct qualitative phone screenings and provide informed recommendations to leadership.  Provide expertise in interviewing methodology and high-touch customer-focused processes to enable consistent quality of hire.

Internal Client Relationship Management:  Understand Caterpillar business operations, products produced, services offered, financial goals and competitive position in order to effectively communicate with business partners.  Challenge hiring manager assumptions to drive effective hiring decisions through a lens of inclusion and diversity.  Act as a recruiting subject matter expert and strategic thinking partner by providing recommendations and industry-specific knowledge that contributes to the overall achievement of Caterpillar’s business and financial objectives.  Utilize effective communication and follow-through strategies to build trust and confidence with clients while adhering to and being accountable for client service levels.

Candidate Relationship Management: Serve as primary liaison between prospective employees and Caterpillar. Establish and maintain effective relationships with prospects and candidates, sharing Caterpillar’s Employee Value Proposition as well as current and forecasted opportunities.   Leverage relationship with candidate and the understanding of candidate’s motivation and expectations to effectively facilitate offer negotiations to a close, obtaining a high rate of acceptance.

Recruitment Program Management:  Collaborate with talent acquisition leadership to effectively program manage large recruitment campaigns and recruiting change management initiatives. Provide recruiting status updates to Regional and Global Recruiting Leadership, including performance vs. targets, sourcing/recruiting challenges/issues, etc. Collaborate with other regions to share knowledge and lessons learned.

Technology: Utilize the applicant tracking system (ATS), Candidate Relationship Management (CRM) tools and an understanding of new and evolving technologies to deliver the most qualified candidates, build strong candidate pipelines, and monitor and manage reports to measure efficiency and effectiveness.   

Legal Compliance: Proven understanding of and ability to comply with country-specific governmental regulations and professional standards and practices. (eg. EEO and OFCCP compliance).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work within in the United States
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years of experience in corporate recruiting or search
  • Three years prior experience using numerous recruiting tools to identify the best external talent.  This includes tools such as LinkedIn, Taleo &/or Workday, or a CRM to support successful recruiting efforts and candidate management.
  • Three years of experience designing, developing and implementing and program managing large recruitment campaigns, strategies and recruiting change management initiatives

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Client Service Orientation: Must be able to provide the highest level of client service, connecting regularly with hiring managers.
  • Candidate Centric orientation: Must be able to communicate effectively with external, as well as internal candidates, to best serve as a liaison for Caterpillar, business unit and role.
  • Intellectual Curiosity:  Must have an internal passion to develop through formal learning as well as informal forms of learning. 
  • Influencing and Negotiation skills: Ability to engage with various levels of the organization to lead and coordinate efforts for recruiting team(s) assigned to support requisitions in the span of support without a solid line reporting relationship. 
  • Analytical Skills: Prior experience in analyzing and interpreting data, including recruiting metrics.
  • Ability to understand business strategies and develop recruitment solutions that will meet present and future needs. This position requires a high level of energy and flexibility and demands applicable knowledge to resolve human resources related questions and issues. Must support opportunities for process improvement and implement as appropriate.

 The location for this role is in Peoria, IL or Deerfield, IL
